Head throbbing, stomach turning, can’t sleep, and you keep saying you need a vacation. Do you recognize these symptoms? Of course you do, but you are probably asking yourself why do you recognize them. Or perhaps your symptoms are slightly different, but the cause is still the same. Every human being experiences this dreaded and growing phenomena. Do you experience it often or just once in a while? Do you feel better after say a weekend up at your cabin? Well if you do there is a reason; a scientifically proven reason that might surprise you. Or perhaps you are already clued into everything I have said so far, but if not I believe it is time that I enlighten you.

Many things can cause the symptoms described above, but the one I will specifically be discussing is stress. Stress gives people headaches, can cause ulcers and tummy problems, can enlist the help of insomnia and above all reminds people that they need to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It has been proven that our indoor type of lifestyles causes an increase of stress and it is a growing epidemic in our world. Who wants to spend their days stressed and therefore depressed?

So if you are human at this point you are probably wondering how can you prevent this stress. If you are not human, I believe you are on the wrong website. But to my fellow stressed human beings I have good news for you. There is an easy way to reduce stress in an enjoyable manner. I wonder if you have guessed it yet. It is one word, one easy word that describes our world around us. Nature. That is right! In order to reduce stress you only need to involve nature in your life for 15 minutes a day.

The best solution is to go outside and breath the wonderful fresh air. Maybe chase the kids around, or play Frisbee with your dog. You could even combine the natural world with something you enjoy like doing yoga or cooking. How easy would it be to set the grill in a manner that allows you to view the backyard? Still if it is not possible for you to get outside or you really just do not enjoy the beauty of nature surrounding you there is an alternate option. You can just look at it!

It has even been proven that if there is a natural picture or a window with a natural view that a sick person will heal faster. Hospitals can put these pictures up on the wall and with out doing any more work their patients will heal faster than with something like a piece of art. If they are healing faster from just looking at a picture then doesn’t it seem quite easy to add nature into your lifestyle? You can do it however works for you, but the thing is: Just Do It!!

Here are some examples of how I added nature into my life. For one thing almost all of my pictures on the walls are of nature except those with family or loved ones depicted. Another thing I did was my calendar every year is nature based. I personally look at my calendar almost every day. My bathroom is even decorated in a beach/ocean theme with a sunset beach shower curtain that I close when I am not using the shower. Even walking into the bathroom can relax somebody! Everyday I also make sure to open all of my curtains so that no matter what I do in the house I have a beautiful view outside! Sometimes the beautiful view even inspires me enough that I will go do my yoga outside. Furthermore my background and screen saver on my computer is compiled of all nature pictures. One last thing I do is that I make sure I have a few plants in the house randomly. Sometimes it is just a flower in a vase, but other times I actually have a green plant. Unfortunately I tend to kill my plants and so my boyfriend always gives them to his mother, but when we have them it keeps the house fresh and alive with the wonderful aura of nature.

Those are the ways I try to add nature into my life. I hope it gives you a few ideas as well! The reasons are simple. A less stressed life helps you live happier, healthier, and longer lives! So many solutions to reduce stress are complicated and sometimes difficult to fit into your busy life, but adding nature to your life is easy and well worth the effort. After all if stress relief is not enough of a reason you can always just enjoy the look of nature as well because it is quite pretty when you take a second to look at it. Now before I go I do have to warn you that just because nature can help reduce stress does not mean it will eliminate it! So all you fellow humans out there I hope we have learned a valuable lesson today! Life is stressful, so sit back and look outside once in a while because the caves we live in just add to our already stressful lives and we all want to be happy and healthy!

How true this is. Nature is a great stress reliever. I too tend to surround my home with nature such as plants and pictures. My computer desk is set up by a window so as I sit here all day writing I can see outside. Walking the dogs helps too. Enjoyed your hub. Wish I had a cabin though :)

I believe the absence of nature contributes to mental and violence issues for people in prisons. I know I would lose a huge part of myself without sun, wind, greenery and other beautiful relaxers. God made our world so gorgeous to give us pleasure while it supplies our needs. I agree completely with your Hub.

Thanks tokigostudio1 :-) Some of the pictures are from my house and one is the view of my backyard, but most of them are pictures that are on my computer as my screen saver... just shows you how easy it is to get good pictures of nature :-)

Just Ask Susan: That is a great idea!! Setting your computer up so you can see outside really helps blend the good nature with the inside of our lives!! I do not have it set up that specifically, but I can look to my right or to my left and see outside. I am so glad you use nature in your life!! And walking the dogs is also great :-) I do not have any dogs though so I just go up to the cabin! Or do my yoga :-)

Hyphenbird: I agree with you. The absence of nature interferes just as strongly with our lives as inviting it into our lives helps. I am so glad you agree with my hub! The world is a beautiful place and we just need to remember that!

Very true. I believe we know this to be the case intuitively but so often get caught up in the day to day trials of life that we forget to connect with nature as an everyday practice.Good job reminding us.Up & Useful.

Thanks Rob Winters!! I think that is the most important part the fact that we know this but forget. Our health is more important and we can't forget to do what is good for it! I am glad I could remind you of the wonderfulness of nature!

Very interesting... I feel a whole lot less stressed now that I have looked at all those wonderful pictures. I actually read or watched something on this exact topic not to long ago. It might have been from The Doctors or it might have been Stumbleupon.... not sure. But, since I heard that, I have been trying to make a good effort to get outside and enjoy nature a little more. I can't wait until the kids are all old enough, because then we are going to start taking family walks outdoors!

Great hub - loved all the facts and ideas. I too have a plant in my house... It is plastic so I dont' get the smell of nature... but it is still a plant nonetheless! :)

Barbergirl: You are so funny. I am glad my pictures made you less stressed! I know how moving can stress you out to the extreme :-) This is a proven thing so it doesn't surprise me that you have seen it else where... but I am glad you make an effort. And ya... I'm not sure Abby will ever be fully ready to walk outside. I think she might trip over a leaf or something ;-) Just kidding! Thanks though!!

Myth - so true. I do love being out doors and I hate winter because it rules out doing lots of stuff outside. I live near two major rivers and we often visit the river fronts. Katy Trail can be accessed easily in several places near me. We took the girls for a whole day of bike riding on the trail once. We traveled about a block before they were tired and worried about having the energy to make it back to the point of beginning. lol!

Awesome hub - I love the photos and video too!

Thanks RHW!! It is totally awesome that you live close to some beautiful areas in nature. I personally love winter as well because I enjoy the icicles and building snowmen and snowangels and all that fun stuff. It always looks so pretty! I just love nature no matter what...well except bugs! lol. I love these pictures as well. We have a screen saver of about 150 pictures so it was difficult to choose just a few but I also wanted to include some of my own place to show that I wasn't lying when I said my place is covered in nature stuff. lol. And I love watching Darrel's videos. This is one of his best because the info is so important! Thanks again :-)

Our nature is the best stress reliever, I do believe on this one ever since. Your photo is fantastically amazing;) Where did you get that one.

Thanks! Although I am slightly confused on exactly which picture of the ten you are complimenting. The first five are results of google searches that my boyfriend did a few years ago. The next four are personal pictures from my house and the last one is once again a google search result. He types in random nature things like lightning, waterfalls, snow, beaches, sunsets, etc. We have so many of them! Thanks for stopping by!

No doubt, Mysticalstorm, STRESS KILLS. We have need to slow down and assess our surroundings to be able to appreciate what is here for us to enjoy. In my environment here, nature is impossible to ignore. BTW, we have a shower curtain identical to what it is you have shown in one of your photos, what a coincidence. Nice pics and even better reminder, Cred2

lol... that is a strange coincidence, but maybe not so strange since we just bought it at Wal-mart. I am glad you can not ignore your nature, but remember to enjoy it sometimes as well!! After all if you take it for granted I can imagine the benefits going down. Thanks for stopping by!!

Is that picture result on google search free to post? Or does it have a cost? Hmmm well the four picture that takes to your house is beautiful, it perfectly captures the secret beauty of nature.

Well I usually include the website when I have a picture from google, but these pictures have been on my computer for four years and I have no idea where they came from since I did not do the original searches anyways. As for the pictures from my house... thank you :-) The variety I have in my house really allows me to recognize the true beauty of nature and I try to enjoy and appreciate it everyday!

sunkentreasure: Very pretty! I like it, but I feel like it is not that easy. We get too wrapped up in our own worlds for things like finding beauty in everything we see! Still the thought is nice and I know that if possible it would make life a lot better! Thank you for sharing :-)
