Old works 7: My Life
65My instruments!
Number 7 of old works describes my life as a teenager. I was overwhelmed one day and just felt like I needed to put my life into words. It was an experience that made me feel better and that is a part of my life I am so proud of that I wanted to share all that I did.
The colorguard girls
Fly, Back, Breast, Free
I need to swim them all
How well I do we will see
It will be your call
I am not a swimmer
I am a diver
When the lights can be dimmer
I am more of a striver
Twister, Reverse, Back, Inward, Forward
With dives and summersaults
The divers will get an award
For a minimum of faults
Trumpet, Clarinet, Flute, Bassoon
I love to play them all
Whether the time is noon
Or sometime in the fall
I am in band
But colorguard is my choice
Sometimes in the sand
I have so much more poise
Drop spin, around the world, slams and snaps
With anything else the pretty flag can do
At right shoulder against the wind the flag flaps
Oh there’s the whistle, that’s my cue
This is my teenage years
Day after day, swimming and band
With many of my other peers,
It is hard on our bodies with all that demand.

I never knew that colorguard was more to you than band was... I always assumed music was a bigger part of your life. However, I have to say, Colorguard was hard. I know Jenny did colorguard and I just did band and even when I tried her flag, I usually ended up injuring myself! :) So kudos to you on all that you participated in! Just goes to show, life is busy as a teenager!
The only reason I didn't injure myself when I tried your flag was because of all that I learned when Jenny was in colorguard... lol... we weren't really allowed to touch the flags if we weren't in colorguard at school, but when Jenny brought it home, all gates came down. LOL - and yes - 10 years later - your colorguard was much better. But the band - well - it was better when I was in ;)
Mr. Busch was a great teacher... and he definately took you to new levels. However.... that being said, we were still better! ;)
Ha Myth - loved the poem and the comments! I was a band geek too - we didn't have color guard or anything like that though. I think it really helps to have those group interests too. And I can see your writing was a creative outlet as well! Very impressive!

The kids who participated in such activities are the ones who usually do better later on. You were a pretty young girl and a lovely young lady.
Great Hub. Voted up!
